turbine produces 150 kw for a total project capacity of 300 kw.
Each turbine cost $250,000.
Brining Farms Turbine #1 and #2Barton County, Kansas - In March 2009, West Wind Energy, LLC of Otis, Kansas, installed two
West Wind Energy N150 wind turbines on this farm. The turbines
power an irrigation well and his farmstead out buildings.
Each turbine produces 150 kw for a total product capacity of 300kw.
Zarco Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas - The Zarco 66 Earth Friendly Fuels station added
a vertical-axis wind turbine to the roof of the fuel-station in spring 2009
(Pictured to right, photo by KEIN,
2011).
The turbine is a Windterra ECO1200 1 kW Wind Turbine. It's not clear
whether this wind turbine actually produces energy or is lovely,
mobile art.
3716 Springfield Wind Turbine
Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas - This building
(see photo, right - provided by The Energy Savings Store), built by
Studio 804, is designed to be an
off-the-grid residential home, located in Wyandotte County. Built in the spring of 2009, this home
features a 1.2 kilowatt vertical-axis Windspire wind
turbine by Mariah Power and 4.8 kw of solar pv, installed by
The Energy Savings
Store (now known as Brightergy, LLC) of Lenexa. This house earned LEED Platinum for Residences
and may still be for sale.
Santa Fe Wind and Solar VAWTGarner, Johnson County, Kansas - Santa Fe Wind & Solar placed a
Cleanfield Energy 3.5 kw vertical
axis turbine (VAWT) on the roof of their business in Gardner. It's the first Cleanfield turbine in the U.S.
Santa Fe Wind is a dealer in this technology. In 2010, Santa Fe W&S
added a Skystream 3.7 to their property.
Shawnee Mission West High School Wind TurbineOverland Park, Johnson County, Kansas - Shawnee Mission West High School has installed
a
Skystream
3.7, 2.4 kw wind generator as part of their Green Energy Resource Lab.
The turbine is mounted on a 60 foot monopole
K-State Wind Application Center Wind TurbineManhattan, Riley County, Kansas - The K-State wind application center
has installed a Skystream
3.7, 2.4 kw wind generator at the corner of Kimball Avenue and Denison Avenue near the
firehouse.
Cloud Power Wind Farm
In January 2013, two of the turbines were lowered due to
exceeding FAA height restrictions in regard to a nearby, private
airport. The blades were removed form the third turbine.

(Concordia Blade-Empire, January 30, 2013) Wind turbines to be lowered (Salina Journal, April 3, 2012) A.L. Huber Wind TurbineOverland Park, Johnson County, Kansas - A 5.0 kw
AES WindJet 5 turbine was installed at
10770 El Monte in Overland Park as part of the
REDI (Renewable Energy
Demonstration Initiative), a partnership between general contractor
A.L. Huber, utility
KCP&L, and
engineering firm Burns and McDonnell. Solar and other renewable energy
features are also planned.
RSI Corp Wind Turbine
Kiowa, Barber County, Kansas - In November 2009,
RSI Wind installed a
10 KW WindGen Wind Generator on the west edge of Kiowa, KS. The Legacy Windmill design
is based off of the old water pumping windmills that are common in rural areas. RSI Wind is using the kWh’s generated to offset the
electrical use of their RSI
Corp commercial building in downtown Kiowa. RSI Wind
supplies, installs and maintains the WindGen units. The photo at right
was provided by RSI Wind.
Pratt WalmartPratt, Pratt County, Kansas - The Pratt Walmart will be one of 500 U.S. stores to install wind generators to help power their store. In mid-February, Omni Wind will install eight 2-kw wind turbines atop existing light poles in the parking lot of the Pratt store. (February 2012)
Greensburg Best Western Night Watchman InnGreensburg, Kiowa County, Kansas - In 2010, the Greensburg Best Western Night Watchman Inn installed an Endurance E-3120, 50 kw wind turbine. This wind turbine is prominently located along Highway 400 near downtown Greensburg. BTI Wind installed this turbine for the Hotel owner after he saw the turbine at the nearby Kiowa County Hospital. Part of the financing for this project came through the Section 1603 program (payments for energy projects in lieu of tax credits) of the Recovery Act, which awarded this project $95,902 in May 2011. (August 2012)

The turbine came on-line on September 10, 2012. The City of El Dorado worked with Westar Energy on interconnection and net metering issues, GBA provided engineering design and GBA Builders was the construction manager for the installation. The project was financed with a combination of Department of Energy and an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant, as well as a Kansas Department of Health and Environment Revolving Loan Agreement. This two-bladed wind turbine may be the first of it's kind in Kansas and is visible from Highway 77. In early 2015, this turbine broke down and was still seeking resolution in mid-Fall. (October 2015)
